Paul Celan Fellowship for Translators
This is an opportunity to translate a critical scientific text. You will spend three months in Vienna, between September 2024 and June 2025. The programme will provide you a stipend and a comfortable working space.
The fellowship is provided by the Institute for Human Sciences in cooperation with the S. Fischer Foundation. This is one of thousands of EU opportunities for Ukraine.
- A monthly stipend of EUR 3,000.
- Opportunity to devote three months to work on contemporary key works in the humanities, social sciences, and cultural studies.
- Comfortable workspace and access to all the Institute’s facilities.
These scholarships are for Ukrainian translators who want to translate a canonical text or contemporary scientific works:
- From Eastern to Western European languages.
- Or from Western to Eastern European languages.
- Or between two Eastern European languages.
- Completed application form.
- CV with a bibliography of translations.
- A project description — up to 550 characters.
- A project proposal: elaborate on the objectives, the state of the art, methods and work plan — up to 7500 characters.
- A brief motivation letter: explain the research goals, the importance of implementing the project at the Institute and the connection to the IWM's mission.
- A contract or a letter of intent from a publisher.
- A proof that you have the right to translate and publish the work.
All documents must be in English and pdf format. For file names of attachments, use Latin characters.
Submit the online application by February 4, attaching the required documents in one pdf file.
You will find out the results of the competition in the spring of 2024.
- This fellowship is for the translation of non-fiction. Fiction or poetry will not be accepted.
- Unfortunately, the organisers cannot explain why your application was not selected.
