Our online course on book marketing will ensure your publications reach their perfect readers. You will learn how to advertise books, capture the attention of the media and influencers, manage the social media of your publishing house, sell books through different distribution channels, and use marketing tools. 
 
Each week there will be homework to complete, and design the marketing plan of your publishing house. Our lecturers, Mathias Voigt, a CEO of a German PR agency for publishers Literaturtest, and Inna Bilonozhko, a specialist in digital innovations and strategic book marketing, will provide you with personal feedback. 
 
The course will take place in September-October and will last for five weeks. The course will be held online on the VUM platform. 

What is the programme of the course?
  • Lecture 1. PR: collaboration with media, bloggers, and influencers, writing press releases, using book catalogues, and measuring the results of work. 
  • Lecture 2. Social media: choosing the social media for your publishing house and working with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, and Twitch. 
  • Lecture 3. Marketing and digital marketing: writing about books, holding successful online and offline events, and preparing book trailers. 
  • Lecture 4. Distribution channels: designing a supply chain, working with online and offline distribution channels. 
  • Lecture 5. Marketing tools: working with the POEM model (paid owned earned media) and measuring the effectiveness of various channels. 
Who teaches at the course?
  • Mathias Voigt is the CEO and founder of the PR and marketing agency Literaturtest for authors, publishing houses, and booksellers. The agency focuses on PR, social media communication, marketing, and advertisement. Literaturtest is the organiser of future!publish, one of the leading conferences for the German-speaking book industry.
  • Inna Bilonozhko is a book analyst, auditor, and lecturer. She has a master's degree in finance (Kyiv) and international publishing business (London), International Qualifications Auditor's Diploma ACCA DipIFR. Inna specialises in digital auditing of the publishing business, digital innovation, and strategic book marketing. She collaborates with English-speaking and Ukrainian publishers in the commercial and academic segments. Inna is the author of the Telegram channel about the English-speaking publishing world cynical_publisher.

What do I need to apply?
You must: 
  • Work in the book publishing sector
  • Have a strong interest in marketing
  • Have a plan on how to use your learnings from the seminar in your daily work
  • Know English well to communicate with lecturers

  • Independent experts will choose 30 participants. If your application is successful, we will confirm your participation before 10 August 2021.
  • The defining criteria will be your motivation.
  • We will give priority to small independent publishing houses.
  • You shall attend all the events of the course and complete all the homeworks.
