Fellowship at documenta archiv in Germany
This is a fellowship programme at documenta Institute for young scientists, researching artists, and curators interested in exploring the documenta contemporary art exhibition. You will spend six months in Kassel having access to the comprehensive records of the documenta exhibitions, research library, extensive press, image, and audiovisual collections. The staff will be there to guide you through the massive collection of modern art and everyday issues.
This is a collaborative fellowship programme, offered by the Goethe-Institut, the documenta archiv and the University of the Arts Kassel. The research stay should begin on 1 October 1 2020 and last until 31 March 2021.
- Complete access to the inventory of the documenta archiv and the support of the experienced staff of the institution
- Exchange with the teams of the documenta archiv, the documenta Institute, the University of Kassel and their academic environment
- Publications and public events in Kassel
- Monthly stipend of EUR 2,000
- Travel allowance
- Supports in applying for visas and other formal travel requirements
- Support in dealing with German authorities, finding accommodation, taking out health insurance, etc.
- Excellent knowledge of modern and contemporary art
- A keen interest in conducting the research related to the documenta
- Experience with archival research and scientific, artistic or curatorial research
- Knowledge of German language at B1/B2 level
- A short letter of motivation
- Concept of a research project including a schedule and, if possible, an idea on the format of presentation of results
- CV with indications of German and other foreign language skills
- Two recommendation letters
- Applications from non-European or European countries underrepresented in the art context are especially welcome.
- The applicants will be selected by a three-member committee, in which the documenta archiv, the Goethe-Institut, and the University of Kassel are each represented by one member.
- Due to the corona pandemic, there may be postponements in the dates of the first cycle.
