Media Blend: StoryHack is a four-day hackathon for journalists and media professionals from across Europe, dedicated to storytelling as a tool for influence, innovation and international collaboration.

From data journalism and scrolling to interactive maps and motion graphics, explore how stories can not only be told, but also lived. Form a team, develop an innovative format and challenge it to experts. The best projects will receive EUR 5,000 for implementation.

The competition is implemented by The Fix Foundation in partnership with the International Press Institute as part of the Media Innovation Europe project. This is one of thousands of EU opportunities for Ukraine.

What do I get?
  • Four-day media hackathon, which will take place on October 19-22 in Bratislava (Slovakia)
  • Opportunity to win EUR 5,000 to develop your idea
  • Mentorship and assistance with developing a media project: you will create a business plan, plan a promo and understand how to implement the idea
  • Online workshops and a hybrid simulation game with feedback from experts
  • Networking with innovative media startups from all over Europe
  • Invitation to the IPI World Congress and the Media Innovation Festival 2025, which will take place on October 23-25 in Vienna
Can I apply?

This programme is for Ukrainian media professionals who:

  • Work as a freelancer, in an editorial office or a media startup
  • Have a project idea dedicated to freedom of speech or innovation and want to present it to the world
  • Apply individually or in a team of up to four people
  • Are willing to spend two hours on an online idea development session
  • Have a good command of English
How do I apply?

Submit the online application in English by 31 August.

If your application is successful, organisers will invite you to an online session to brainstorm innovative ideas in September.

Based on the results of the session, the organisers will choose 10 winners who will go to the media hackathon in Bratislava. The results will be announced in October.

Good to know
  • This competition is also open to media professionals from the EU, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia. Share the English version of the competition with friends from these countries.
