DOCvillage 2025: residency for documentary filmmakers
Together with the CineSud film hub we are offering an intensive five-day residency in the Netherlands, where you will refine your documentary film idea and gain the tools and confidence to bring it to life.
Through interactive group sessions, practical exercises, and individual coaching, you will discover different documentary approaches. Together we will learn how to create compelling stories, develop effective research, conduct insightful interviews, and build a solid foundation for your documentary by planning your budget, schedule, and logistics.

- Five days of mentoring sessions on storytelling, research strategies, interview techniques, and basics of pre-production. You can check the schedule.
- A chance to present your project and win EUR 2,000 during the DOCDAYS Industry Day.

This residency is ideal for emerging documentary filmmakers in various stages of development, from a starting concept to working on a project already in development.
You are a perfect fit if you:
- Are interested in non-fiction storytelling
- Have up to three audiovisual works in portfolio, including at least one short film
- Has not yet directed a feature-length film
- Currently reside in Ukraine
- Know English well
- Information about your project: tagline, logline, and synopsis
- Your motivation to join the residency
- A director's vision
- CVs of key crew members with links to previous works
- A mood board

We will select four participants based on selection criteria. You will get an email with the results of the open call on 29 July.
- This residency is about you, and you only. You can apply together with the crew next time.
- During martial law, some men are not allowed to leave the county. We cannot guarantee you a business trip permit, but we will help: onboard you on procedures and draft an invitation and a certificate stating that we cover trip expenses.
