DAAD: research scholarships for teachers and scientists

This is an opportunity to work on your scientific research at one of the German universities.

The programme will cover a monthly scholarship, round-trip tickets, and insurance. You choose the university and agree on cooperation.

The programme lasts from one to three months. You can plan your research stay in Germany from June 2025.

This is one of numerous DAAD opportunities funded by the German Federal Foreign Office. This is one of the thousands of EU opportunities for Ukraine.

What do I get?
  • A monthly scholarship of EUR 2,000 for assistant teachers, assistant professors and lecturers, and EUR 2,150 — for professors
  • Travel allowance
  • Health insurance 
  • Networking and experience exchange with colleagues from other countries
Can I apply?

This scholarship supports Ukrainian teachers and scientists who:

  • Have PhD degree
  • Officially work at a university or institute of higher education in Ukraine
  • Know the research language
What do I need to apply?
  • Completed application form
  • CV in tabular form — up to 3 pages 
  • List of publications
  • Detailed description of a research project you want to implement  — up to 10 pages. Please indicate how long you wish to receive funding
  • Confirmation from the academic host in Germany that it will provide you with a workplace
  • Copy of PhD certificate
  • Language certificate of the research language

Please note that all documents must be in PDF format. For documents submitted in Ukrainian, please provide German or English translations.

How do I apply?

By 15 November, apply via the DAAD online portal. You can find step-by-step instructions here.

Good to know
  • You should find an academic host in Germany yourself. Choose a state-funded, state-recognised university or a non-university research institute, which is being carried out in agreement with a supervisor in Germany. 
  • You can get funding for a programme that lasts between one and three months. The selection committee will determine a funding period individually, considering your study plan.
  • You can visit several German universities at once.
  • If you have special needs, please indicate this in your application. Organisers may cover additional costs.
  • If you have received fellowships from the Humboldt Foundation, contact the foundation before applying.
  • You may apply for this programme once within three years.
