Grants for cross-border investigative journalism
This is an opportunity for Ukrainian media and journalists to join the investigation, which will be released in several European countries at once.
Join forces with EU media for material that will move European audiences. The programme will cover all costs during the research phase and offer a mentor to help develop the topic.
European Cross-Border Grants are carried out by Journalismfund.eu, with funding from the Limelight Foundation, Vereniging Veronica, and the EU. This is one of thousands of EU opportunities for Ukraine.
- Coverage of all costs at the research stage. There are no restrictions on the amount, but it varies from EUR 2,000 to EUR 14,000
- Ability to pay fees, travel, translation, fixers, database subscriptions, etc. 80% of the grant should go to the editorial work in the EU
- A mentor who will advise on international cooperation, investigative methods, storytelling and other issues
The grant is perfect for teams that:
- Have journalistic experience
- Consist of two journalists or media from different Council of Europe countries. Look for tips on how to find a partner on the project website
- Found an idea for an investigation that would interest the European audience. Look for examples of such materials on the website

- Precise description of your project. Tell about the central conflict, share the results of previous research and explain how and when you plan to work on the material
- Budget of the project
- For journalists — CVs and copies of passports
- For news outlets — articles of incorporation, annual financial statement and list of members of the board and senior management
- Letters of intent from at least two professional news outlets in two different countries

By 26 September, register on the online platform and fill out the application form. The language of the application is English.
You will find out the results within 40 days.
- The grant does not cover production, operating costs, and equipment purchases.
- You can publish investigations in any language.
- Your organisation must be officially registered at least one year before the competition deadline.
- Invite colleagues from outside Europe if such collaboration would strengthen your material.
- Have you already received Journalismfund.eu? EU grants? Apply again. The jury will consider your previous projects when considering a new application.
