This is a competition for journalists who draw attention to sexual crimes against Ukrainians committed during the war. Get from UAH 2,000 to UAH 8,000 for a photo report, podcast or story on this topic.

The competition is managed by the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine in partnership with the Mukwege Foundation.

What do I get?
  • A chance to win a grand prize of EUR 8,000
  • The reward of UAH 5,000 for first, UAH 3,000 for second place, and UAH 2,000 for third place.
Can I apply?
This competition is for media outlets, journalists and bloggers who work in the media or are freelancers.
What do I need to apply?

A completed application and printed, radio, or video material that:

  • Covers the topic of sexual violence: threats, rape, sexual slavery, forced prostitution, pregnancy, abortion or marriage
  • Was released between 1 October 2023 and 4 August 2024
  • Is up to 15,000 characters if it is text, up to 20 minutes if it is radio material, and up to 30 minutes if it is a video
  • Has an online version freely available. If you cannot provide a link, ask the media for a reference confirming the release date of the material
  • Meets the standards of the Ukrainian Journalist's Code of Ethics

How do I apply?

By 4 August, submit the application form

The organisers will send the results by 11 August. The winners will be awarded on 24 August.
