This is an award from the European Commission, which has been recognising journalists who are not afraid to write about important topics, from human rights to ecology, for more than 30 years.

Win EUR 10,000 for winning one of these categories:

  • Best Emerging Journalist Award — for budding journalists.
  • Investigative Journalism Award — for investigative journalism.
  • Feature Journalism Award — for feature journalism.
  • Special Award — for photo reportage.

Can I apply?

This is a competition for journalists from all over the world. Apply if your print, radio or TV material:

  • Relates to one of the contest's priority themes: inequality, poverty eradication, sustainable development, environment, biodiversity, climate change, digital resources, work and employment, education and skills development, migration, health, peace, democracy and human rights
  • Was released between 30 May 2023 and 29 May 2024
  • Was published in a media outlet based in Ukraine or another eligible country
  • Is up to 2,300 words for text, up to 30 minutes long for video and audio and one photo with a description — if it is a photo report
  • Has an English, French, Spanish, German or Portuguese translation
  • Has an online version accessible

How do I apply?
  • If you are applying for EU programmes for the first time, get an EU login.
  • Register, fill out the online form and upload the necessary documents.

Good to know
  • You may submit only one application per category.
  • You can apply for the Best Emerging Journalist Award category if you are between 18 and 25 years old.
  • You can submit materials you created independently or in a team, specifying co-authors.
