This is an art residency in the house of former dictator Enver Hoxha in the heart of Tirana. While you work on your project focusing on the Balkan cultural scene, the organisers will cover accommodation, round-trip tickets, production and a monthly stipend of EUR 600. 

If you dream of a multidisciplinary project on the border between art and science, apply independently or with a researcher. 

The residency will last three months. Choose a convenient period: from December 2024 to February 2025, April to June or August to October 2025.

The programme is managed by the Art Explora Foundation with Vila 31. This is one of thousands of EU opportunities for Ukraine.

Can I apply?

This residency is for artists, art critics and curators who:

  • Have at least five years of professional experience
  • Work with visual, performative or digital art
  • Desire to implement an art project independently or in a team with a researcher
What do I need to apply?
  • Application form completed in English
  • CV — up to 5 pages
  • Motivation letter — up to 2 pages
  • A description of the project you want to implement during the residency — up to 3,500 characters that visuals can accompany 
  • A description of the events you plan to hold — up to 1,500 characters
  • Portfolio — up to 30 pages

How do I apply?

By 5 June, submit the application form via the online portal.  

Organisers will support 25 participants.

Good to know
  • Apply with researchers studying the humanities, social sciences, ecology or technological innovation.
  • If you are applying in a team with a researcher, you need to submit one joint application.
  • Organisers will consider the quality of the project, relevance to the theme of the residency and the importance of this research for the artistic and scientific community in the Balkans.
