Harriman Residency for Displaced Ukrainian Writers
This is an opportunity to work on a project in Vienna for six months for Ukrainian authors who were forced to leave their homes due to a full-scale invasion. You will have a small office within the walls of the Austrian Literature Society, free accommodation and a stipend of EUR 18,000. The residency will take place from 1 January to 30 June 2024.
The residency is supported by the Harriman Institute of Columbia University, the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) and the Austrian Literature Society (der ÖGfL). This is one of thousands of EU opportunities for Ukraine.
- A monthly stipend of EUR 3,000.
- Six months in Vienna in the period from 1 January to 30 June 2024.
- Free accommodation, visa and administrative support.
- Networking with Austrian colleagues and the opportunity to share your knowledge during lectures, exhibitions, seminars, conferences or other events.
This residency is for writers, journalists, translators, novelists, poets and playwrights who:
- Have Ukrainian citizenship or Ukrainian permit.
- Were forced to leave their homes because of the war.
- Want to implement an interesting literary, translation or publishing project.
- Dream of taking the position of the author in the Austrian Literature Society.
- Completed application form.
- A short CV.
- A writing sample in English — up to 20 pages. If the English version is a translation, please attach the original one.
- A project proposal you will be working during the residency — up to 3 pages.
