This is an opportunity to rethink Roma settlements and socialist buildings of the 70s and 80s during a three-month residency in Trnava, Slovakia. Together with the chief architect of the city and his team, you will develop a project that you will present to the community. The programme covers housing, tickets and a monthly stipend.

The competition is provided by the cultural centre Malý Berlín and the City of Trnava. This is one of thousands of EU opportunities for Ukraine.

What do I get?
  • A three-month residency in Trnava from October to December 2023. You will have access to the departments of the city administration, in particular to the Department of Territorial Development and Planning, Building and Environment
  • A monthly stipend of EUR 1,000 
  • Free accommodation and EUR 500 for round-trip tickets
  • Networking with colleagues from all over the world 
  • A chance to present your project to the public
Can I apply?

The organisers are looking for architects, urban planners, researchers and students who:

  • Live in any corner of the world
  • Have a bold idea of comfortable housing for Roma or rethinking socialist housing
  • Are fluent in English or Slovak

  • Motivational letter — up to 1,000 characters
  • Portfolio
  • A short description of your activity — up to 2,000 characters

Good to know
  • The competition is also open to students of relevant specialities.
  • Previous experience with international projects will be an advantage.
