EXTER: art residency in Frankfurt

EXTER is an international art residency programme of the Ukrainian Institute. Ukrainian artists will spend three months in Frankfurt to exchange experience and strengthen Ukraine's presence in the global art community.

The residency will take place from April to June. The organisers will provide you with a stipend of EUR 1,000, accommodation and a working studio. You will also have a curator who will help you adapt and integrate into the art community.

The programme is managed by the Ukrainian Institute together with basis Frankfurt e.V. and Goethe-Institut Ukraine. This is one of thousands of EU opportunities for Ukraine.

Can I apply?

This residency is for Ukrainian artists, curators, art critics and researchers who:

  • Are of full age 
  • Live in Ukraine or were forced to move abroad after 24 February, 2022
  • Work with contemporary art
  • Want to publicly communicate and present their practices during the residency
  • Have B2 or higher level of English
What do I need to apply?
  • Application form completed in English: tell about yourself, your professional experience and residency expectations. Also indicate the desired period of residency. The file title — “LastName_FirstName_application_EXTER4”
  • Portfolio in English — up to 10 pages, titled “LastName_FirstName_portfolio_EXTER4”
  • CV in English — up to 2 pages, titled “LastName_FirstName_CV_EXTER4” 

All the documents must be in PDF format.

How do I apply?
Send the documents in a letter titled “EXTER 4: Application” to art@ui.org.ua by 19 February.
Good to know
  • The organisers will support three artists.
  • Relevant higher education or other professional training certificates will be an advantage.
  • The organisers will individually discuss the residency programme with you according to your professional needs and practice.
