This is an opportunity to get a scholarship of EUR 5,000 for researchers who remain in Ukraine. For five months, you will work on your scientific project without worrying about money. 

The scholarship is provided by the Institute for Human Sciences in cooperation with the Ukrainian Research Institute at Harvard University, and the Harriman Institute at Columbia University This is one of thousands of EU opportunities for Ukraine.

Can I apply?

This scholarship is for Ukrainian researchers who:

  • Hold or are currently enrolled in a PhD programme in the humanities or social sciences 
  • Remain in Ukraine
What do I need to apply?
  • CV 
  • Abstract of the project you will be working on
  • Motivation letter with a brief description of your project, funding and the impact of Russia’s full-scale invasion on your work — up to 2 pages
  • List of publications

Application should be completed in English.

How do I apply?

Submit the application via online portal by 16 December 2022. 

The organisers will support 35 researchers. You will know the results by 27 January, 2023.

Good to know
  • You cannot apply if you received non-residential or residential fellowship from the IWM in 2022, or received a Documenting Ukraine grant.
  • Unfortunately, the organisers will not provide applicants individual feedback on their applications.
