Grants for cross-border investigative journalism
This is an opportunity to get up to EUR 20,000 for a journalistic investigation on any topic you believe is important.
The funding will cover travel, visa, accommodation, translation, fixers, access to pay-databases, and other project related expenses. Also, you will get mentorship support.
You need a partner from the EU, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Armenia, Georgia, Iceland, Kosovo, Moldova, Norway, North Macedonia, Serbia, Tunisia, or Montenegro to participate.
The programme is carried out by Belgium based independent non‐profit organisation Journalismfund.eu. This is one of the thousands of the EU opportunities for Ukraine.
- Up to EUR 20,000 to cover all the costs related to the project except for the hardware

- Mentor’s consultations about cross-border collaboration, identifying sources, research methods, storytelling or other topics depending on your project needs

Organisers are waiting for freelance journalists and news outlets who have:
- Strong idea of cross-border investigation. You can find examples of projects previously supported by the grant here
- Professional experience in journalism
- Cross-border colleagues who will become your partners in the investigation. The team must have professionals from the EU, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Armenia, Georgia, Iceland, Kosovo, Moldova, Norway, North Macedonia, Serbia, Tunisia, or Montenegro. - Bank account that can receive international payments from the EU
- Precise description of your project. Elaborate on the main investigation idea, provide your method, plan and expected timeline.
- Budget of the project
- For individual applicants — CVs and copies of passports
- For news outlets — articles of incorporation, annual financial statement and list of members of the board and senior management
- Letters of intent from at least two professional news outlets in two different countries

You will know the results of the competition in December 2022.
If you do not make it this time, you will have the opportunity to apply in January.
- News outlets must be officially incorporated at least one year before the deadline.
- The result of your journalistic investigation can be published by a professional media outlet in any language.
- You will get money in euros. You will have to pay the bank commission yourself.
- The organisers will choose winners depending on the project's relevance to the overall theme, novelty, expected impact on society as well as geography.
