This is an award of the European Commission which honours courage in journalism. Since 1992, it rewards the excellence of journalists reporting about the stories that matter. The main award is EUR 10,000.
You can apply with printed, radio or television reportings related to the issues of:
- Inequality
- Poverty eradication
- Sustainable development
- Environment, biodiversity, climate action
- Digital (gap, connectivity, e-governance, entrepreneurship)
- Jobs and employment
- Education and skills development
- Migration
- Healthcare
- Peace, democracy, and human rights
There is a special nomination for novice journalists under 30.

What do I get?
- Award of EUR 10,000.
- Belonging to the community gathering past winners, Grand Jury members, strategic regional partners, and ambassadors who speaks truth to power.

Can I apply?
This contest is for you if your reporting:
- Relates to one of the contest priority themes
- Was published or broadcasted between 10 March 2021 and 9 March 2022
- Was published in the media outlet based in Ukraine or another eligible country
- Is up to 2,300 words for text or up to 15 minutes long for video and audio
- Has an online version accessible
What do I need to apply?
- Application form completed.
- Translation of your reporting in English, French, Spanish, German, or Portuguese.
Good to know
- You can apply for the Best Emerging Journalist category if you are under 30.
- If the reporting is the result of collaboration between several partners, you can apply and add the associated participants as co-authors.
