"Let’s meet Europe! Tolerance and inclusion": camp for children of 11-13 years old

Sector: Youth
Type: Programme
Location: International children’s centre “Artek”, Pushcha-Vodytsia, Kyiv oblast
Deadline: Finished
Organiser: House of Europe: Institut français d'Ukraine

We invite children from all over Ukraine to hop on a space journey with the European Youth Camp.

We are heading to a universe of tolerance, where an uninhabited planet awaits. We will complete tasks, earn points and exchange them for stuff to fit out our polis. There will be no inequality and bullying, but facilities for disabled people, environmental initiative, and respect for cultural heritage. As in any exploration, there will be adventures and true friendship.

Every day we will learn about tolerance and inclusion, apply new knowledge in practice, get acquainted with the diversity of EU languages, play games, hold discussions, watch films and show talents. For more interactivity, we designed an app.

We blast off on 16 July and return to Earth on 29 July. Throughout the whole exploration, our planet will revolve around the international children’s centre “Artek”, located near Kyiv. There is no participation fee, but you have to bring the child to the camp and take them back home.

Read the open call carefully and join the camp: it will be stratospherically awesome!

An offline camp in times of COVID-19?

We all miss face-to-face communication, especially after more than a year of online events due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore we went for an offline camp compliant with all the safety restrictions.

To make sure children stay healthy throughout the camp, we will ask them to take the temperature, wash hands and use sanitisers, respect the safe distance, wear masks during mass events, and inform camp's personnel if they feel unwell.

The safety of your child is our top priority. In case of an unfavourable epidemiological situation, we will offer you to take part in an online camp on the same dates.

Can my child apply?

We invite active, curious children 11-13 years old from all over Ukraine.

We have no restrictions: participants from villages and small towns, children that had to move due to the conflict in the East of Ukraine are welcome. We also encourage autonomous disabled children and children with access requirements to apply.

What do I need to apply?
  • Your child’s motivation to hop on the camp. Please ask them to write a few lines on why they want to join us and attach an essay, video, audio, picture or something else related to the theme of the camp.
  • A smartphone with any operating system. Your child will have to download an app with games and quests.
How do I apply?
Read the open call carefully and apply via our online platform.
How will you evaluate the application?

Firstly we will evaluate:

  • How strong is the child’s motivation to join the camp
  • Where the child lives: we make sure there are a few participants from each region of Ukraine
  • What is the child’s gender: we make sure among the participants of the camp are an equal number of boys and girls

Participation in international camps is a great adventure, and we want as many children as possible to experience it. Therefore, we will give preference to children who have never participated in such camps before.

Children from villages and small towns, those who had to move due to the conflict in the East of Ukraine will also get bonus points.
